Friday Afternoon!

Another busy week in P3!
After music on a Friday, however, we have a time to work and play together in the Junior Area at Activities!
Some of us go to music club; others visit P1 and 2 classrooms to join in the fun there; others enjoy playing with construction sets or crafting materials with visitors to our P3 classroom.  It's good to share this time with P1 and 2 doing something creative at the end of a hectic week.

World Book Day in P3!

Gosh!  What a very busy week we've had in P3 this week!

As you can see from our pictures, many in P3 decided to dress up as favourite book characters on Thursday 5th March as part of our Book Day fun.  We had a great time in class working out who all the different characters were too!

Can you guess who they all are?

P5 presented an excellent Assembly to the whole school about World Book Day.  We enjoyed reading along with our friends in other classes and having the quiz which P5 had prepared for us all.  This older class had also organised a competition to design a special bookmark.  Leah in our class won for P3.

P7 have been organising the Book Fayre in school too this week.  We went to visit their book exhibition at the school library and many of us ordered books.  We are looking forward to our books arriving soon.  We think P7 did a fantastic job of running the Book Fayre! And we know they have raised alot of money to buy books for the school library too!  Well done, P7!

P3 have been having lots of check-ups in Maths and Writing this week.  We had a visit from Sarah from the Pier Arts Centre.  We have been thinking alot in our Health and Well-Being about getting along together.  And we even had a FROG visit us from P6!!!

We hope you enjoy the photos!

Design a Book Character Competition!

This week P7 has been working very hard to organise their Book Fayre (3rd- 7th March) which incorporates World Book Day on Thursday 6th March.

P7 is running competitions for both Upper and Lower Primary classes.

P1-3 were asked to design a book character and to describe his/her/its skills and/or superpowers.

P3 took up this challenge and decided to use their writing time in class to create their own characters and to apply their recent hard work  and learning in adjectives to describe them.

Today (Friday) P7 anounced the results after judging all the entries.  All were of a very high standard.

We are pleased to say that our Christy won first prize for his character and Leah was runner-up.

Well done to both of you!

P3 with their completed entries!

And here are our two proud winners!

Look what Einar brought to school!

At Check-in today, Einar asked if he could show the class what he'd brought in.

Einar had kindly brought in some pieces of flint and an actual flint arrowhead to show everyone!  This flint had been found around the Skara Brae settlement and so was very interesting to P3 as we study our Ancient Orkney topic.
Einar explained how flint was used and answered questions from his claamates and teacher.

We were all excited to think we were able to hold a real, ancient artefact in our hands and felt very lucky indeed.
Thank you, Einar, for such an interesting talk!

Tanzanian Lunch!

Today our amazing dinner ladies made an extra special lunch!

In eager anticipation of the start of the Commonwealth Games 2014 to be held in Glasgow later this year we have been asked  to give our support to two guest countries - namely Tanzaia and the Caymen Islands.

We have been looking at slides of Tanzania to try and observe what the country looks like; we have been talking about the animals which live there; and we have been learning to recognise the Tanzanian flag!

Our dinner ladies made us a Tanzanian stew with rice and yummy baked banana and ice cream for pudding.  Mrs Miller thought it smelled delicious, and we enjoyed eating it too!

Hope you enjoy our photos!  We had fun taking them!

Silly Lines in P3!

P3 were having fun today making silly lines!

We were not waiting in a line to go to PE, or more importantly LUNCH (!) this morning.

We were enjoying some SILENT challenges - lining up according to height, hair colour and alphabetical order.  And all without talking to each other!

This activity was to help us work in a team and to improve our learning community in P3.

Well done P3!  We did it!

And look at our successful, smiling faces!
